so I’ll admit I’m turning into a junkie for Beach Body. Yes, I am become one of those rubes who watches the infomercials and drools like the Pavlovian dog that I am. So what. I’m having a wonderful time doing P90X and wouldn’t ya know it would appear my “cut phase” is turning into more of a really wonderfully productive bulk phase, with the unforeseen yet not unexpected (contradiction?) result that my tire remains. SO, when I’m done with P90 in about 5 or 6 weeks, it looks like I’ll be ponying up yet another $120 for Beach Body’s latest craze, the “Insanity” program.
Haven’t posted here in a while. Just a quick update, I’m still doing P90 and goin’ strong for the moment. I did 2 weeks on and off of phase 1, then I took a week break, and most recently I’ve done 2 more weeks of Phase 1 pretty religiously and now I’m doing the recovery week before going on to Phase 2 next week. In terms of progress I’ve made some pretty good gains just as far as flexibility goes (I’m doing yoga and loving it for the moment).
I’m still struggling with my tire though (I look all weird, pretty ripped up top and then my old self around the midsection) so I’m just trying to tighten up my diet as always. I’ve gone back to having breakfast type food for dinner like cereal and toast and the like, and then I’ve switched dinner foods not to breakfast like I was doing before but to lunch. It’s just WAY too hard to cook a whole dinner for breakfast, lunch is a lot easier. I just started it this week, I know for a fact it’ll work if I can just remain consistent with it.
In short, it’s been kinda rocky gettin’ back into P90X but I’m encouraged. I was able to do chest/back, shoulders/arms, and yoga this last week. For this week I’ll be trying to do all that and also legs/back. We’ll see.
Great song. But more to the point I’ve got a new plan as far as updates which I think’ll be better. I’m going to go thru the P90 program ’till the end of summer and then just take like one or two days to full on blog and post all of my workout info and progress pics and whatnot, instead of posting as I make my way thru it. ‘Cause it’s tedious.
So I’m back on P90X for the entire run. I’m startin’ over from Week 1 with a few minor to major alterations. Firstly, the cardio workouts’ll take a huge backseat to the lifting sessions which’ll be my major priority; if I can’t or don’t do any cardio, that’s fine by me. Also, while I will try to do the leg workouts (my least favorite body part) I won’t do those until I have done at least one round of yoga a week; I’m really likin’ yoga for the moment and I suspect that’ll play a huge role in me getting the body I want. Sometimes I’ll just do yoga and that’ll suffice, other times when I’m in it to win it I’ll do both that and the leg/back workout. So basically instead of doin’ the “doubles” version of P90X I’ll be doing the “half” version. Which I’m cool with.
So suffice it to say I’m a little lost right now. At the beginning of the week I seem to be too “busy” (copout) and then by Wednesday I’m like, “Well, I can’t get goin’ with lifting right now, I’m already too far thru the week.” This logic is dumb but strong with me. So starting next week my plan is as follows – do 2 or 3 weeks of the P90x Phase 1, take a week for recovery, and then finish the rest of the program as is. I reeeeally don’t wanna go back to Phase 1 ’cause I’ve seen how cool and for lack of a better word, “flashy” Phase 2 is, but I think I should. And what’ll make it different this time around I’m hoping is that I’ll finally be doing yoga in the program. I have managed to do yoga twice this week and today for the first time I made it almost all the way thru the workout. And it’s been awesome. I always do this, I try yoga and then I get burned out on it and then I talk crap about how much yoga sucks only to be drawn back to it again. So for now I’m just ridin’ my wave back to yoga until I inevitably get sick about it again. But yeah I think doing the program all the way’ll make all the difference.
And for the record I am still a big fan of the P90X program; in terms of bodybuilding and strength training theory I think it’s spot-on, though with all things in life it’s just a matter of dedication at this point.
Woot! I’m in the big time. Now if people would actually start commenting that’d be nice. Ya know, “Good job,” “WTF?” or “Get off your ass and work harder.” Anything? Anybody?
Soooo I’ve decided to admit that I can’t really hack it with P90X as is. 6 days a week just isn’t poppin’ in any universe for me. At the height of even my regular lifting I was only workin’ 5 days a week. B UT, I super super love their weight workouts, and I’m confident that they could make a really strong impact for me doin’ just those alone. So my new adjustments will be the following:
Ehhh I think I’m generally done with doing the program and keeping regular kind of time. I’ll start next week in Week 1, Phase 2, but don’t count on me if you’re reading this to be a very good case study for what a strict P90x regimen’ll look like. On that note I might end up discontinuing my “Progress Pic” page too, it just makes me feel pressured and guilty.
Like I said I’m only gonna do the weight workouts (only 3 times a week) for P90x from now on. Once the Fall starts up again I’ll maybe go back to doing my usual weight workouts. Or I might just continue with different permutations of P90 until I get bored of it. And if I find time to do some of the cardio workouts (I’d actually really like to get into doing yoga, I think that might be key if I can just force myself to do it), then so be it.
So that’s where I’m at right now. My schedule’s just been kinda wacky lately, and it looks like I’ll never really be able to do P90X as is. So I’m officially releasing myself from this guilt and just doin’ what I can from here on out.
Alright. It’s basically gon’ be impossible for me to do six days a week like the P90X program prescribes. I had high hopes for it, I really wanted to be like one of those testimonials they show in the commercials, from like flab to tight ripped bulkness in 90 days flat, but it ain’t poppin’. So from now on I think I’m gonna declare right now that I’ll do my best and as Tony Horton says, forget the rest. So basically my P90′ll end up lookin’ more like P120 or 30. Which is cool with me. Eventually I would like to do a second round though with almost flawless discipline. I got the rest of my life, right?
